Which of these monitors should I purchase?

I'm leaning towards ASUS because I trust them more than Acer. I also like the look of it more, It also has more reviews and a customer choice award. I'm paranoid about dead pixels but that's always a crapshoot, though ASUS has a better policy on dead pixel monitor returns.

The ASUS has 2ms refresh as opposed to the 5ms refresh of the other.
The ASUS has no LED backlight whereas the Acer does.
The ASUS has a 100,000:1 contrast ratio as opposed to a 100,000,000 contrast ratio.

Considering these points, which would you recommend and why?

By the way, I plan on using this for gaming not movies. I'm guessing you want response time for gaming, contrast for movies, and LED for both?

EDIT: from what I've read there is basically no difference between 2ms and 5ms.
EDITEDIT: Turns out the numbers for contrast are bullshit too, The ASUS has about 1050:1 static contrast while the Acer has 600:1

The Acer one uses like 1/3rd the electricity. Everything else looks about the same, so I'd go with that one. You'll save money on it in the long run.

In my experience, Acer makes much better monitors than ASUS.

That being said, the Acer does have several distinct advantages here. LED backlit LCD screens tend to give a much more vibrant picture than traditional LCD's. The Acer LED monitor there also uses much less electricity, as Thor pointed out.

I'd say the Acer is a much better pick, no question.

All LCD screens are backlit, but before they were using LED's to the the job, they just were using fluorescent tubes. LED backlit LCD screens only started being a thing a few years ago and aren't totally standard yet. LED lit ones have a much more vibrant picture at less energy cost.

The ASUS monitor there is just using the traditional tube backlit method.

Sorry to say, but both of those monitors suck big time. 1080p might seem nice for a tv, but for a computer monitor its pretty poor quality, especially for a 27". Thats going to be nothing but big icons and disappointments.

For about $50 more, you can get a Catleap (Yamakasi) monitor that is 27", LED Backlit, 380cd/m brightness, and 2560x1440 resolution. Catleap is a generic Korean Brand that uses the same monitor components used in the iMac computers, so that LED monitor is also IPS.

Here is one example listing.

Hah, I had someone try to convince me to get one of these but he called it a "Korean knockoff brand" so I was kind of wary.

I spent a lot of time researching monitors and ended up deciding to do some other upgrades first. I'll probably get a nice big SSD and a new GPU instead.

When I do get a new monitor I probably won't go past 24", since I think 27" might be too big for gaming, especially RTS games. Thanks for the advice everyone, I'll remember it when I get around to getting a new monitor.

Get an SSD you wont regret it.. just make sure its not using the old SandForce drives those are plagued with bugs sadly. I got a Crucial M4 128 gb with my OS on it, makes booting such a snap and games load really fast.
