The Elder Scrolls V - SKYRIM Megathread

Holy shit there's been some news!
    Taking this from uesp.net
The only important news to come out of QuakeCon so far this year is a statement from Todd Howard that Bethesda has a new project in development and that it has been in development for two years.

Previous rumors had suggested that a new installment of The Elder Scrolls would be announced at QuakeCon, which finishes on Sunday, August 15 this year. The last installment of the series, Oblivion was released over four years ago, so a new game is well overdue.

UPDATE: In a EuroGamer interview released on 16 August, Todd Howard gives a few more details. "One thing I can say is that from when you first hear about it to when it's out will be the shortest it's been for us. It's pretty far along. When we show it, we want to show a lot, because there's a lot of game there to play right now.

"You know, if Pete Hines came in and said, "I want you to show it," I'd be like, "Okay, I'm ready to show it." But we've just decided for now not to yet."
ngghhhh i really hope they show it soon, and it better not be an MMO. I'm pumped!

I hope they use a better engine then the one they used for Oblivion. I tried to go back to that game over the summer and the character models are creepy as fuck.

I mean yeah back in 2006 it was amazing, not so much today.

I they don't use a new engine I will mail anthrax to the whole development team. But I know they will so I won't have to worry about how to buy deadly viruses.

Also I hope they bring back the level of complexity i felt in TES III but not in IV.

Also yeah it better not be an MMO

Sounds awesome! I really enjoyed played Morrowind, not as much as I did Oblivion but I'm greatly looking forward to TESV. Also maybe a new TES Construction Set will be released. If so I think I'd be willing to invest some monez into getting it.

Never played morrowind, but I loved Oblivion and I'm usually not that big on RPGs. Can't waaaaaitt!

EDIT: Except for the main quest, that sucked.

Two things I really want in this game and that I need to really enjoy it

    1 player
    no leveling content

sadly bethesda has a hardon for leveling content these days for some fucking reason

I dont think Bethesda will take any major steps forward with this one in terms of the core RPG gameplay. It'd be nice if you couldn't survive a certain cave or fortress until you reached a certain level...

Monsters that level up with you is kinda lame.

Since there doesn't seem to be any more information, probably for a long time, why don't we talk about what we want to see in ESV?

I personally liked the simplified skill system in Oblivion because it meant less grinding and more versatility. You didn't just have to focus on one weapon FOREVER to be competent like Morrowind. I just hope they don't simplify it more. In the last game it was pretty much perfect IMO.

As I said I REALLY hope they back off on the leveling content.

I hope they have a new engine as somebody else already said.

I hope they make quicktravel harder or at least make the scenery interesting enough to make walking worthwhile. The limits of quicktravel in morrowind made me go out and explore more, and that added a lot of fun and immersion to the game and gave a sense of scale.

I hope the game has more topographical variety. Oblivion only had grassy plains, grassy plains with swamp-like features, grassy hills with a bunch of trees, and snowy mountains with nothing on them. They also had the "oblivion realm" but that place is such a piece of shit I prefer to pretend it doesn't exist.

that's all I got for now. I could go on but people won't read my post if it's too long

I want better spell management, more effects and uses, and better conjouration/enchanting. Also I want all the old armor pieces back, I liked having different gloves and vambraces and stuff. More interesting loot. Overhaul archery, make it faster. Let me shoot arrows like an elf not a barbarian that is most familiar with his axe. Needs to be one player, or SMALL (2-4) adventuring parties at most. No MMO crap! Yes more limited quick travel.

I would like to see an absence of load times, and actually show your character and npcs opening doors! And attacking while on horses would be nice, as would more realistic horses (red dead redemption-like horses would be aaaaaaaawesome)
Just streamlining the entire experience would be great so it feels less like a game.

yeah I thought the whole instanced towns thing was dumb. I would have gladly excepted lower quality graphics in towns if they could be more seamlessly merged with the environment.

You know you can create your own spells in Oblivion? You have complete freedom. The system let you have pretty much any effect you could want. I always assumed that the vendor spells are just for people doing some "on the side" spellcasting and people who want to make serious wizard characters where assumed to go for spell making at their first chance. Then again it was kind of a pain in the ass to get to the point where you could make spells...

I beat the mages guild quests and have never made a spell because of the mana costs... I always felt like I didn't have enough

More unique dungeons and fortresses would be nice... Unique areas, characters, and loot seemed to be severely lacking in Oblivion.

Lot of oblivion bashing in this thread, I feel it needs to be pointed out oblivion WAS a very good game. It improved on Morrowind in many ways, especially combat. The physics engine was fun, but underutilized. It had lots of interesting characters and the quests were often very unique and unexpectedly funny at times (the mage quest where you had to get the ring from the bottom of the well was fucking genius). In fact I'd go so far as to say the sidequests in Oblivion are better than Morrowinds.

still though IMO morrowind > oblivion
